Frequently Asked Questions

Have Questions? We Have Answers.

What is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner?

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) earn a master’s or doctoral degree in psychiatric-mental health nursing. A psychiatric APRN can see patients, assess, diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders using all accepted forms of psychiatric treatment.

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes – I am able to evaluate, diagnose and treat psychiatric patients with all appropriate psychotropic medications.

Do you provide psychotherapy?

In addition to medication management, I can provide brief psychotherapy. For more in depth treatment I usually refer patients to a specialized psychotherapist.

Can you recommend a therapist?

Yes, I can recommend a therapist and offer other means by which you may locate a therapist to meet your needs.

What is Telepsychiatry?

Telepsychiatry is safe, secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth video conferencing. It offers the same mental health access, convenience and privacy as in person visits. For patients who cannot attend visits in my office, I offer telehealth as an option.

How do we connect for appointments?

At the time of your appointment, you can go to a link that will be provided for you when you schedule your visit. Click on the link and follow the instructions.

You may connect using a computer with webcam and audio, a tablet such as an iPad, or a cell phone with a camera.

What is the typical wait time for an appointment?

I believe when you need an appointment for a mental health issue, you need it now, not later. I maintain schedule openings for new patients each week and I strive to see new patients in a matter of days. If your new appointment is urgent, please let us know.

I schedule follow up visits with you at the conclusion of each appointment. The time between appointments depends on how you are doing and your progress. Initially, this may be as often as every one to two weeks. Eventually, it may be as infrequently as once every three months. This may depend on the type of medication you are taking. If an urgent need arises, we will make arrangements as soon as necessary.

What insurances do you accept?

I have limited the insurances I accept so that I may be accessible and responsive to my patients’ needs. I accept self-pay patients and I am a contracted provider with Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare and Medicare.

How do I make an appointment?

Contact us here. Either someone from my office or I will get back to you right away to schedule your appointment. Before your scheduled visit you will be sent intake forms to fill out prior to your appointment. This will include information about you contact information, reason for visit , insurance information and payment options. Filling out the forms prior to the appointment leaves much more time for your visit.
